Yawen was born in Wuhan，China. She obtained her BSc degree in the School of Pharmacy, Wuhan University in 2018 and her graduation project was about natural pharmaceutical chemistry. She started her PhD under the supervision of Prof. David O’Hagan, and her project is about the biosynthesis of halogenated natural products in Streptomyces.
