Rifahath was born and brought up in Kerala in India. In 2005 he received his M.Sci degree in organic chemistry from the University of Pune in India. After this he worked as a Research Associate in Medicinal Chemistry department of Lupin Research Park, India for two years. He subsequently moved to the Process Research and Development unit of AstraZeneca, India in Aug 2007 and worked there till June 2014 as an Associate Research Scientist. He completed his PhD in Isothiourea mediated Organocatalysis with Prof. Andrew Smith (St Andrews). He is currently working on synthesis and application of Fluorine containing medicinal compounds.
